Kieron Gillen on a decade of New Games Journalism – audio

The influential games critic and comics author looks back over a decade of writing on gaming

This week on Tech Weekly with Charles Arthur we hear from influential writer Kieron Gillen as this year marks a decade since he published his manifesto New Games Journalism, calling on games critics to embrace the art form and become as established as other forms of cultural criticism. Guardian games editor Keith Stuart talks at length with Gillen about his early years working on computer games magazines and how his writing moved from games to music and eventually to an established comics writer now working for Marvel. You can listen to the full unedited version of the interview on the Tech Weekly SoundCloud page here.

Also Charles is joined by Guardian tech writers Alex Hern and Samuel Gibbs to discuss the Heartbleed security bug found in the ubiquitous OpenSSL and what lies ahead for XP users now that Microsoft have discontinued support for this version of their operating system.
