Richard Hartley’s Work

I’ve been creating and managing information systems for industry over 20 years.

Business Systems Development since 1992
The first corporate telecoms application I wrote was in 1992. In 1993 I was investigating collaborative systems, emerging online communities and user-generated content.

I started developing for the web in 1993 with NCSA’s Mosaic browser, an Apple Macintosh LCII with System 7 and MacTCP, an optional third-party control panel that enabled access to the Internet, not yet built into the operating system. I began developing for Microsoft’s Internet Explorer when it made its debut two years later in 1995.

Working for 6 years as an IBM Systems Consultant providing training, support, systems development and integration for industry and 3 years at an IBM Business Partner developing and managing systems; recruiting IT Consultants and Project Management for large-scale IT projects including: Lend Lease Bluewater Centre construction in 1997/98, Highways Agency, Amey plc and BNFL.

I combine SQL databases, NoSQL databases, HTML, Java, Javascript, PHP, amongst other tools, building high-performance, scaleable, high-availability back-end systems and front-end interfaces.

Key Applicatons
I created a Childcare application for tracking families, foster children and their siblings to ensure their protection for a major UK City Council. I created Operations Management, Team Management and Finance Management systems for a global water utility company and a Private Equity Management System for a banking client.

Industries
Other systems I have architected, developed, implemented and supported include Customer Relationship Management, Marketing Communications, Finance Management, Operations Management and Project Management for international utilities, banking, entertainment, publishing, pharmaceutical and manufacturing industries.
