Serik Aprymov's gentle movie about childhood and memory is part of Independence Days, a season of new Kazakh cinema touring indie venues nationally.

Three boys hang out with their friends in a village during one hot, aimless summer; they live right next to a military airbase with absurdly poor security and befriend an elderly war veteran who entrances them with racy tales of high-ranking officers disporting themselves with prostitutes.

It's a likeable tale, though with longueurs and a pretty rough edit and sound mix.
