Return to Sender review – Rosamund Pike before she was Gone Girl

There are few surprises in this cheapo thriller about a nurse who strikes up a relationship with the man who attacked her in her home

Before Rosamund Pike was cast in Gone Girl, she made this cheapo thriller, which almost acts as a piece of lurid Amazing Amy fan fiction. She plays a small-town nurse assaulted in her home by an intruder. After he is convicted, she strikes up a relationship with him, which might not be entirely about the power of forgiveness. As a dry run for David Fincher’s thriller, Pike is effectively edgy, acting everyone else (including an increasingly incomprehensible Nick Nolte, as her father) off the screen but the film is predictable exploitation with little in the way of surprise. Rewatch Gone Girl instead.
