Cassetteboy, the YouTube king of mashup, has certainly made the most of the recently changed copyright laws. The changes, which allow people to use copyright material from films, TV shows and songs in order to parody them, came in this week, just in time for a spectacular rearrangement of David Cameron’s Conservative party conference speeches. “I’m hardcore and I know the score. I am disgusted by the poor,” says Cameron in the video. “And my chums matter more because we are the law and I’ve made sure we’re ready for class war.” In a note underneath the video Cassetteboy writes: “Contains swearing. Seriously though Dave, thanks for legalising parody videos.”
Will Reid was finding it hard to get through to his teenage kids James and Beth before he had the genius idea of reaching out to them through YouTube. He started his series of video tutorials for teens with a step-by-step guide to changing a toilet roll. Actually putting the empty roll in the bin afterwards was deemed a bit too advanced for his kids. He’ll tackle that one in another video.
Meanwhile, John Oliver explains football to a baffled David Letterman. Oliver details the four league system of professional football, or ‘soccer’ as he persists in calling it. “We’ve managed to get the class system in sport,” he says. If you fail to perform in the premier league (his bizarre pronunciation of the word premier is presumably to make it easily understandable to an American audience), “like Downton Abbey, you are relegated downstairs to the servants quarters of sport”.
Poor Anthony Wunder. He was the streaker who ran onto the pitch during the Ohio State Buckeyes vs Cincinnati Bearcats game before being fiercely tackled to the ground by Ohio State coach Anthony Schlegel. Whereas Schlegel has received endless praise on social media, Wunder is about to lose his academic scholarship, according to Yahoo sports. The website reports that the 21-year-old engineering student, who is said to have been drunk at the time, is facing charges of misdemeanor and criminal trespassing.
Meanwhile on the internet, a hurricane in the Ukraine carries a man 30ft in the air and lands him on some concrete steps. A TV reporter stumbles across a missing boy while he’s out reporting on said boy’s disappearance. The trailer for Inherent Vice, the new film from Paul Thomas Anderson, has attracted over 1 million views since it was released on 29 September. And a bee sends a weather presenter screaming off set: “I’m going to end up on some blooper reel.”
Finally, the moment a great white shark is attacked by a greater white shark is caught on camera. And, just to get you through the rest of the day, this cat really loves having its fur vacuumed.
