The stuffy old Oscars are out of the way. Here – finally – are the MTV movie awards. The annual teen awards show gave out such prestigious awards as best scared-as-shit performance, best shirtless performance and #WTF moment last weekend, but the broadcast also featured a host of new clips and trailers from upcoming blockbusters – cast your eye on them all below.

X-Men: Days of Future Past

Those who want their experience of the new X-Men film to be entirely spoiler-free might want to avoid this clip, which reveals one minute of footage from the opening battle sequence. After last year's enjoyable but inessential spin-off The Wolverine, this looks like a triumphant return to form for the franchise.

Days of Future Past will merge the two timelines from the original trilogy and Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class, creating one of the greatest blockbuster casts in recent years in the process (Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Ellen Page, Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Game Of Thrones' Peter Dinklage). Director Bryan Singer, who helmed the first two instalments, returns behind the camera. The clip displays an exciting sense of teamwork between the mutant faction as they battle an evil Sentinel, with each character's powers coming to the fore.

Edge of Tomorrow

Ever watched Groundhog Day and thought it needed more robots and explosions? Bring on Edge of Tomorrow, which stars Tom Cruise as Lt Col Bill Cage, a man stuck in a time loop in a war-torn future. Every time Cage dies in combat against a malevolent alien race, he wakes up again at the beginning of the same battle – a situation he exploits to train up and work towards defeating the enemy for good. Based on Hiroshi Sakurazaka's novel All You Need Is Kill (a significantly better title), this could prove a return to form for Cruise after the lukewarm reception to Oblivion and Jack Reacher.

Transformers: Age of Extinction

After Transformers: Dark of the Moon made more money than could be ignored, Michael Bay's Transformers franchise returns with series reboot Age of Extinction. With Shia LaBeouf off renouncing his celebrity, Bay's new playmate (and star of his last film Pain and Gain) Mark Wahlberg provides the human involvement this time around. Alongside the return of Optimus Prime and Bumblebee, this entry finally promises the involvement of the Dinobots as showcased at the end of this new clip.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Following the failure of 2007's fully-CGI TMNT to ignite a franchise, this Michael Bay-produced effort has a fair bit of pressure riding on its shell-covered shoulders. And with Bay's involvement, this isn't the daft breakfast cartoon you might remember - the trailer implies a similar tone to Bay's Transformers films (unnecessarily dark and exasperatingly silly at the same time) down to Megan Fox's casting. A live-action cast sets this apart from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' last big-screen outing, while the new clip implies the sort of wide-scale destruction that contemporary blockbusters are now expected to deliver.

Blended

The latest offering from Adam Sandler's Happy Madison Productions company sees the third time Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore have starred together. Blended has them as a couple who experience a terrible blind date, only to find themselves stuck at the same holiday resort a few days later. With the director of The Wedding Singer at the helm, there's a chance this could be goofy fun, a touch above the quality of Sandler's dire recent output. There is currently no clear indication of where the title Blended comes into play – perhaps an allusion to how an audience's head feels after watching an Adam Sandler film.
