Ice Cube has laid into film fans for handing the MTV movie award for best on-screen duo to the late Paul Walker and Vin Diesel, calling it a "sympathy" vote.

According to USA Today, the rapper turned actor believes he and Kevin Hart should have picked up the prize on Sunday night for their performances in losing nominee Ride Along. Instead, Walker and Diesel won for Fast & Furious 6.

"We was robbed," Cube allegedly told the site. "Shame on you MTV."

He added: "We had the best chemistry of everybody nominated, for us not to win was crazy. We were the best on-screen duo, period. They should have gave it to him before he passed away."

Comedy Ride Along opened in the US in January, where it was a sizeable box office hit despite poor reviews. It stars Cube as an Atlanta policeman who takes Hart's security guard along on a routine patrol.

Walker died on 30 November when the Porsche he was traveling in crashed and burst into flames in Santa Clarita, California. The actor had been on hiatus from a shoot for the action sequel Fast & Furious 7 in Atlanta.

Separately, it has been revealed that Walker's brothers Cody and Caleb will stand in for their sibling as Fast & Furious 7 returns to filming this month following a delay caused by the death of its star. "Having them on set has made us all feel that Paul is with us too," said a statement on the film's Facebook page. "We came together and all felt the only choice was to continue. We believe our fans want that, and we believe Paul would want that too."

It was previously reported that CGI, body doubles and voice effects would be used to complete scenes featuring Walker. Fast & Furious 7, also starring series stalwarts Diesel, Dwayne Johnson and Michelle Rodriguez, has been delayed from July 2014 to April 2015.
