Ridley Scott's forthcoming sequel to science fiction puzzler Prometheus is likely to feature multiple Michael Fassbenders, according to The Wrap.

Screenwriter Michael Green is reportedly working on a storyline which features several different versions of David, the android portrayed by Fassbender in the 2012 film.

As well as taking over duties from Transcendence's Jack Paglen on Prometheus 2, Green is also working on the script for a proposed Blade Runner sequel. The fate of both Scott's iconic future visions therefore now rests in the hands of one man.

A source told The Wrap that Green would aim to cleave closer in style to the original Alien from 1979, which spawned multiple sequels. Prometheus took more than $400m at the box office, but some critics laid into Lost creator Damon Lindelof's portentous script and ubiquitous plot holes.

Scott's film, which starred Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender and Idris Elba, centred on the human crew of a spaceship sent to investigate a distant planet where the answers to mankind's origins may lie hidden. The Wrap suggests the sequel will continue where the first movie left off, with Rapace's God-fearing archeologist accompanying Fassbender's David on a journey to find the home of the Engineers, a mysterious alien race with a genetic link to homo sapiens.

Paglen's take on the story appears to have been unceremoniously jettisoned, despite Scott having told Empire magazine as recently as November that the screenplay was ready to shoot.
