Adele won her first Golden Globe award last night, taking home the honour for best original song in a motion picture. "Oh my God, oh my God, oh, oh my God!" she shouted, dedicating the Skyfall prize to her partner, Simon Konecki, and their three-month old son.

Sunday night's gala was Adele's first television appearance since the 2012 Grammy awards, almost a year ago. She was clearly delighted by the win, saying that she had attended mostly as an excuse for an evening out. "Honestly, I've come out for a night out with my friend Ida. We're new mums … We've been pissing ourselves laughing."

Despite her stardom, Adele seemed almost intimidated by the Golden Globes' array of Hollywood faces. "All these people here are like characters I've come to love in films and TV," she said on the red carpet. "It's very weird coming here and not being around my peers." From the stage, she thanked the movie-star crowd "for letting [me] be part of your world for a night". "[And] I'd like to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press," she said. "I never thought I'd say that."

Later the 24-year-old took to Twitter to express her excitement at meeting Daniel Day-Lewis.

While Skyfall has now become the UK's biggest-ever film, Adele admitted that she was originally hesitant to get involved with the project. "I got the script a long time ago and it took quite a while to convince me to do the actual song," she told Ryan Seacrest. By the time Adele finally went in to record with Paul Epworth, she was "very pregnant and very emotional," she said. "It's a big responsibility doing a Bond song … I was worried I would let everyone down."

With the Golden Globes over, the awards season spotlight now shifts to the Academy Awards on 26 February. There too, Adele and Skyfall are the favourite for best song. Whether or not she wins, the bigger question is whether Adele will perform: there are rumours the singer will make her concert comeback as part of the Oscars' tribute to the James Bond franchise.
