Elfie Hopkins – review

Avoid Ray and Jaime Winstone's comedy thriller at all costs, writes Philip French

This inept British black comedy-thriller, produced by Ray Winstone and his daughter, Jaime, stars the former as a butcher and the latter as the eponymous wild teenager who whiles away the dullness of her Welsh village by fantasising about her neighbours and investigating their lives. She and her wimpish admirer become convinced that a wealthy new family are cannibals, and the ensuing feast of flesh is accompanied by an orgy of mistimed jokes, stumbling narration and dim performances. I felt like taking my felt pen to the film's poster and turning the overindulged star's name into "J'aime pas Winstone".
