388 Arletta Avenue – review

The surveillance-camera's eye restrictions of this Canadian suburban thriller rarely feel forced, writes Andrew Pulver

A smart, creepy little Canadian thriller that manages to effectively repackage some fairly shopworn ideas. Nick Stahl and Mia Kirshner play young marrieds in a standard-issue suburban street who find tensions in their relationship are quickly and skilfully exacerbated by an unseen observer to the point of breakdown. Nearly everything is filmed from the point of view of the multitude of surveillance cameras installed by the stalker in home, car and office; it's to director Randall Cole's credit that the device rarely feels forced or extraneous. It all works – just.
