Four Horsemen – review

An eloquent documentary that considers a solution to all the world's ills is ultimately depressing, writes Philip French

This eloquent, fast-moving documentary is an earnest compendium of every recent film you've seen about the destruction of the environment, the greed and incompetence of bankers, the corruption of democratic government, the origins of terrorism, the terminal nature of unrestrained capitalism and the spiritual death that is consumerism. It offers a series of cures to all these ills, a mighty panacea that demands that everyone collaborate worldwide to change our ways and restore our troubled universe. The general effect is ultimately depressing, and one begins to wonder whether the Book of Revelation followed up the four horsemen of the apocalypse with something about the appearance of wingèd swine.
