Munich looks likely to be the next stop on Woody Allen's grand tour of Europe. Allen, currently shooting The Bop Decameron in Rome, is in negotiations with Bavaria studios to fund his next project, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The film, as yet untitled, has an estimated budget of $17m (£10.2m).

After previously filming in England and Spain, it was Allen's stay in France, where he shot Midnight in Paris, that has thus far proved most lucrative: that film took $50m (£30m) in the US alone, making it Allen's most commercially successful movie ever. Earlier this week, Sony Pictures announced they'd be giving the film a second push in US cinemas, ahead of an awards campaign that would include a pitch for a best picture Oscar. Midnight in Paris opens in the UK on 7 October; the film enjoyed a warm reception at its premiere at the Cannes film festival in May.

The Bop Decameron, loosely inspired by The Decameron, Giovanni Boccaccio's collection of short stories, is a collection of vignettes, one of which focuses on an American couple travelling to Italy to meet the family of their daughter's fiance. That section is said to feature Allen himself, returning in front of the camera for the first time since Scoop, which was made in 2006 but never secured a release in the UK. Judy Davis, Alec Baldwin, Roberto Benigni, Penélope Cruz, Jesse Eisenberg, Greta Gerwig, Ellen Page and Alison Pill are all confirmed co-stars.
