The comedian and TV presenter Joan Rivers will attend the UK premiere of the documentary Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work at this year's annual Sheffield Doc/Fest.

Rivers will attend the premiere on the opening night of the annual showcase on November 3 along with the awardwinning filmmakers Ricki Stern and Annie Sundberg.

Stern and Sundberg were granted unguarded access to Rivers as the 77-year-old star refuses to burn out, making many an irreverent media appearance and continuing to tour live shows.

Over one year, the documentary charts the highs and lows of the high-profile performer, who was booted off ITV's Loose Women for swearing live on air in 2008.

Now in its 17th year, the Sheffield film festival – in association with MediaGuardian – will run from 3-7 November.

A further screening of Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work will be shown on November 5 at Doc/Fest, as will a masterclass into the making of the documentary open to public and delegates.

The documentary will be broadcast on More4 on 9 November.
