Jaymay, Autumn Fallin’

Think Woody Allen if he were young and female - and could sing.

The debut album by this 26-year-old New York anti-folker plays like an updated musical version of Annie Hall, only with an irrational young female singer in the lead rather than a phobic middle-aged comic. Using simple acoustic textures and her fine, elastic voice, Jaymay unravels a bittersweet love story, perfectly capturing the self-obsession, waspish humour, endless neuroses and almost hourly mood swings that typify new love in a wintry Big Apple. Exuding justifiable confidence in its writing and delivery, this is a warm, witty and wonderful record.
