The Blossoming of Maximo Oliveros
(98 mins, 15)
Directed by Auraeus Solito; starring Nathan Lo
Made on a budget of £10,000, Auraeus Solito's The Blossoming of Maximo Oliveros is a bittersweet comedy about the friendship between a 12-year-old gay from a family of thieves and an idealistic young cop in the slums of Manila. It concludes with a homage to the end of The Third Man and has been extravagantly praised. I found it unconvincing but not dislikable.
