Another welcome edition of the compilation that brings together award-winning shorts.
There is a preponderance of child's-eye views, perhaps appropriately for this short-form cinema, and not much comedy this time around. There is a bleak world view on show, but there are some impressive examples of the minimalist art.
Most notable are The Shovel from debut writer-director Nick Childs, a dark, twisty 15 minutes starring David Strathairn; the silent and dream-like Sniffer from Norway; and the grim but almost comic The Last Farm, as sharp as the Icelandic countryside it portrays.
The disc, which comes from a film-makers' label, provides a valuable showcase for the art of brevity: nothing lasts longer than 16 minutes, but the 10 films in the collection provide two hours of thoughtful entertainment.
