Imaginary Heroes

(Cert 18)

Irredeemably gloomy film that plays like a parody of the US family-in-crisis movie. Writer-director Dan Harris, better known for X-Men scripts, is getting a lot off his chest here, but it's just too melodramatic to relate to. It doesn't help that both leads - Sigourney Weaver (The Ice Storm) and Jeff Daniels (The Squid and the Whale) - act as reminders that witty and memorable films can be made out of the collapsing family template.
