Carphone Warehouse's new "free" broadband service will be promoted online through a digital marketing campaign tie-up with internet giant MSN.

Under the online advertising deal, brokered by agency Essence, a campaign promoting "Free broadband forever" will see a range of digital advertising run across the high usage MSN Messenger and MSN Hotmail services.

Hotmail has 8.8 million email users in the UK, while MSN's instant messaging service has 10.3m monthly users.

The campaign will also include two high-profile "home page takeovers" - where a single advertiser buys all the advertising inventory on a web page. The first takeover will occur next Friday, April 21.

Kate Adelson, the digital marketing manager at MSN, said that the home page takeover strategy was a "proven high-impact means of communicating to a wide audience", while Hotmail and Instant Messenger would "target more specific audiences".

The new broadband service will be offered as part of Carphone Warehouse's TalkTalk landline offering. For £9.99 per month, plus £11 line rental cost, customers signing up to its Talk 3 international calls package can receive an 8mb broadband connection.

This is the first digital branding campaign TalkTalk has run with MSN.
