Orange yesterday jumped on the Star Wars bandwagon, signing an alliance with the creator of the movies which will give the mobile phone company exclusive access to content from the original three films as well as the "final" instalment to be released next year.

Under an exclusive 15 month deal with Lucasfilm, Orange customers will be able to access characters, images, film and music clips from the three original films. The 1970s film and its characters have come back into fashion.

Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi were released on DVD for the first time in the UK this week.

Orange is hoping the offering of characters such as Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker and R2-D2 will persuade customers to spend more money on their phones. Orange also wants to supply Stars Wars content in the run-up to the release of Revenge of the Sith, technically the third of the six instalments of the series though the last to be made.
