Harvey Weinstein, the larger-than-life Miramax boss, has sold his as yet unfinished memoirs to HarperCollins for publication in the US and UK.

Weinstein, who runs Miramax Films with brother Bob and has earned a reputation in the industry for his brutish determination, is currently whipping up a storm over Michael Moore's documentary Fahrenheit 911.

The book will chronicle the rise of Miramax from its early days as a small distributor to its present status as an awards specialist with an eye for literary projects featuring some of the world's biggest stars.

It is understood the mogul is also keen to set the record straight after the publication earlier this year of film journalist Peter Biskind's Down and Dirty Pictures, which charts the company's rise and presents Weinstein in a broadly unflattering light.

HarperCollins is due to publish the memoir here and in the US in 2006. "We are very grateful for the chance to have built a business based on our passion: the world of movies," Weinstein told reporters.

"Working with [HarperCollins] on this book offers a great opportunity to share many of the lessons I've learned about the business world and the entertainment industry over the past 25 years."

Weinstein has said he will donate all his profits to charity.
