The latest in the excellent Screencraft series of books has arrived, featuring the customary compilation of indepth interviews with topnotch practitioners.
Edited by Felim MacDermott and Declan McGrath, Screenwriting offers discussions with luminaries from Paul Schrader ("Travis Bickle has the smell of sex about him: sick sex, lonely sex, repressed sex, but sex nonetheless") to Ruth Prawer Jhabvala ("Everything I tried to say in the break-up scene in Room With a View was shown by Cecil sitting down and putting on his shoes very sadly. I didn't write it and it was brilliant").
In between are the views of Hollywood gurus such as William Goldman and Robert Towne, and Euro veterans Jean-Claude Carrière (Belle de Jour) and Krzysztof Piesiewicz (Three Colours trilogy). One for the simply curious as well as the aspirant scribbler.
