Tom Cruise has won a $10m (£6.2m) judgment in a lawsuit against a male porn actor who alleged they had an affair.
Ricardo Cestero, the lawyer acting for Mr Cruise, said that the Los Angeles judge made his decsion after Chad Slater admitted that his story was false and said he would not actively defend himself against the lawsuit.
"He is very, very pleased with getting this judgment and is happy to have another ruling that these stories are false and defamatory," Mr Cestero told reporters.
In his lawsuit, Mr Cruise claimed Mr Slater falsely told a French magazine, Actustar, that his gay love affair with Mr Cruise was directly responsible for the actor's divorce from Nicole Kidman in 2001.
The actor said he would donate any proceeds of the lawsuit to charity.
This is not the first time that Mr Cruise has reached for his lawyers to counter unsubstantiated rumours that he is homosexual. Two years ago he sued Michael Davis, the Los Angeles publisher of Bold Magazine, for $100m after Mr Davis claimed to have a videotape of Mr Cruise having sex with a man.
The actor eventually dropped the suit after Mr Davis retracted his claim and agreed to a stipulation that Mr Cruise "is not, and never has been, homosexual and has never had a homosexual affair".
Mr Cestero said Mr Cruise had not yet decided whether to press Mr Slater, also known as Kyle Bradford, to pay the latest judgment. But he added that his client intended to file defamation actions against anyone who spread false rumours about him.
"He is very concerned and very protective about his personal reputation," Mr Cestero told Reuters. "To the extent that people are writing stories that defame him, he is going to go after them."
