A very dull wartime yarn starring Anna Friel as a London girl who falls in love with a Canadian soldier. She goes over as his bride to live with the in-laws while he's away fighting, and finds herself imprisoned in an endless Canadian prairie of boredom - which is how your reviewer felt. Friel does a spirited job, but Molly Parker and Brenda Fricker are stuck with awful roles as the gloweringly resentful daughter- and mother-in-law, Fricker with a face, as they say, like a wet weekend in Wigan. The film tootles along in a moderate way, exciting no more emotion than the test card or a computer screensaver.
