Woody Harrelson and Kyle MacLachlan are the latest Hollywood actors to sign up for duty on the London stage. The pair will play squabbling brothers with the Kennedy-esque names of Jack and Bobby when they appear in a new American play, On An Average Day, at London's Comedy Theatre. Harrelson and MacLachlan are booked for a 16-week run, beginning on August 7. The play is written by John Kolvenbach and will be directed by John Crowley.
On An Average Day is set in a grungy kitchen in the brothers' smalltown American home. Critics have described the play as reminiscent of Sam Shepard's True West in its familial tensions, raw dramatics and mythic overtones. Producers hope that the London production will eventually transfer to New York.
Harrelson and MacLachlan are the latest in a growing number of American actors to turn their hands to the London stage. In recent months, the West End theatre scene has played host to the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, Madonna, Summer Phoenix and Matt Damon. Other successful recent visitors include Kevin Spacey and Nicole Kidman.
