BSkyB's interactive service, Open, today launches the ultimate service for couch potatoes - a TV-based "car boot sale" service.
For the first time, punters will be able to put their unwanted goods up for sale for free, simply by tapping away on their remote controls.
The service is provided by UpMyStreet, an online local information resource in which both News International and Open have stakes.
UpMyStreet has assembled a team of classified partners including property listings service assertahome and MultiMedia Television's job channel, car listings service Exchange & Mart and a general listings from AdTrader to beef up its service for TV.
Its ambition is to blow apart the whole classified advertising industry and change the way people advertise personal goods by taking on market leader Loot and other online buy and sell services.
Open's managing director, Jon Florsheim, said: "This unprecedented service is set to challenge the way local information is accessed in Britain."
Open claims it reaches more than 11m people in more than 4m homes.
Launched in October 1998, UpMyStreet received a cash boost of £9m in May from News International for a 21% stake, and a further £3m from NM Rothschild.
Open jumped into bed with UpMyStreet last summer when it took and undisclosed stake in the company in return for developing and hosting this particular classifieds service.
