I saw Beauty and the Beast at eight years old in theatres and spent hours trying to recreate the majestic imagery of that story in a drawing notepad at home. It would be a couple years before it dawned on me that “visual storytelling” (not that I called it that at 10) was a job that a person could have. It’s the only job I ever wanted.
What’s your favourite film ever?
2001: A Space Odyssey. I’d watched and hated it seven times before it provided the first “religious experience” I’d ever had watching a film. Finally, I was able to pick up on what the film was transmitting almost entirely through dialogue.
What’s your worst/most overrated film?
I never liked Donnie Darko quite as much as my film school peers.
Favourite director?
Stanley Kubrick.
Favourite environment for watching?
Always a theatre with a packed house.
What’s your favourite film snack?
Sour Patch Kids.
