A sequel to director Anthony Baxter’s previous film You’ve Been Trumped of 2011, this passionate work of agit-doc follows up what’s been happening since in the ongoing battle between Scottish farmer Michael Forbes and American billionaire Donald Trump, who wants to build a golf course in Aberdeenshire in, effectively, Forbes’s backyard. Despite a vocal grassroots campaign against the development, ground has been broken, ancient natural environments have been destroyed, and even another adjoining course has been planned, all eased forward by Scotland’s first minister, Alex Salmond, who is the MSP for the area.
Obviously, it’s no coincidence this is being released so close to the referendum on Scottish independence, and progressive yes-sympathisers might want to consider the evidence presented here.
Baxter broadens his scope to investigate campaigns against other destructive golf courses in Dubrovnik, Nevada and Long Island, which is laudable but muddles the focus. Is this doc supposed to be a general anti-golf expose or part two of Trumped? Still, it’s rousing stuff.
