Wii consoles bundled with games are selling on eBay for up to £1,000 following a shortage of supplies.

The consoles are the most searched-for items on the ebay.co.uk auction website. Manufacturer Nintendo last month warned it could struggle to get enough stock into stores due to high global demand. eBay last week logged nearly 30,000 searches for the words Wii and Nintendo Wii on its UK website.

That compares with 11,054 for the rival Xbox 360 console and 10,855 for the PlayStation 3. Nintendo said it was working at maximum production levels to boost supplies during the Christmas period.
