Veteran Radio 1 DJ Annie Nightingale is to present a music show on the internet starting from November.

The twice weekly show will be broadcast through NetBeat www.netbeat.com, an established music distribution website which already has one million users.

Although the name has yet to be decided, the 15 minute show will showcase new bands and include cutting edge music as well as revealing interviews with guests, hand picked by Nightingale. Names being bandied about include Irvine Welsh and ex-Happy Mondays singer Shaun Ryder.

Nightingale, famous as much for her longevity as for becoming the first female DJ in the country - she joined the all-male Radio 1 in 1970 - will play the kind of cutting edge music on the web show that she broadcasts in her Saturday night/Sunday Morning Radio 1 slot.

Involved in the show's development from conception, Nightingale said: "TV on the Box, the traditional sort of gogglebox, has really lost its drive and enthusiasm - reality gameshows and watching paint dry are surely not what TV was invented for. I'm always excited by the innovative and what may be risk-taking."

Brighton resident Nightingale was the recipient of the 1998 Woman of the Year Lifetime Achievement Award from the Music Industry and Related Media Organisation.
