McCann picks up £6m Railtrack account

Railtrack has taken on McCann-Erickson to create the £6m launch campaign for its new travel website, totaljourney.com.

Totaljourney is a joint venture between Railtrack and Firstgroup, the UK's biggest bus driver.

It will enable travellers to plan and book everything from trains and flights to hire cars and hotels. It is scheduled to launch this summer backed by a £6m marketing campaign.

Both Railtrack and Firstgroup will rebrand their existing websites as totaljourney. Railtrack.co.uk, which provides information about train times, was the second most popular travel site in the UK in a recent survey.

"McCann demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the totaljourney vision and presented a unique awareness of the market," said Elaine Holt, managing director of totaljourney.

"Theirs was a holistic approach, supported by the strong integration of their UK communications network."

McCann pitched against TBWA/Tequila and WWAV RAPP Collins to win the account.
