Woody Harrelson and Kyle MacLachlan are the latest Hollywood stars to try their luck in London's West End. The pair will star in John Kolvenbach's play On An Average Day at the Comedy Theatre in August. The play is the story of two brothers who are abandoned by their father. Later, the elder of the two also walks out on his little brother.
Clint Eastwood's next picture as a director will star Sean Penn. The film is an adaptation of Dennis Lehane's novel Mystic River, a story of three childhood friends who drift apart after one of them suffers a terrible trauma. When, 25 years later, one of the friend's daughters is murdered, the past comes flooding back. Penn will play Jimmy, an ex-con and father of the murdered girl. Kevin Bacon is in final negotiations to play a policeman investigating the case.
Wes Craven's Craven/Maddalena Films has picked up the script for suspense thriller The Waiting, which is described as a being in the tradition of The Omen and What Lies Beneath. Craven will direct the tale of a woman who loses a child and is then visited by the spirit of another infant, who she mistakes for her own. Her husband doesn't believe her, and the spirit eventually reveals a darker side. Craven will first make Pulse for Dimension films.
Bob Dylan is writing a song to play over the end credits of the American civil war drama Gods and Generals, Variety reports. The story of Stonewall Jackson, the movie will be directed by Ronald F Maxwell. The last time Dylan wrote a song for a film - Things Have Changed, for Curtis Hanson's Wonder Boys - he won an Oscar.
The Back to the Future trilogy is to be released in a deluxe DVD box set. A European edition comes out in September, but will have less extras than the US release, which is scheduled for December. Among the goodies on offer on the American edition are interviews and commentaries from Michael J Fox and Robert Zemickis, deleted scenes, outtakes and, er, a video from Huey Lewis.
