In brief: Kapadia goes from Eastern to Western

Plus: Wallace, Grommit and Beetlejuice ride again

Fresh from the success of The Warrior, Hackney-born director Asif Kapadia is heading to Hollywood to direct the outlaw drama St. Agnes's Stand. The Warrior, described as "an Eastern", has been snapped up for North American distribution by Miramax, who are now grooming Kapadia to direct a Western. Based on the novel by Tom Eidison, St. Agnes's Stand tells the tale of a disreputable outlaw who is regarded as a messenger from God by a troupe of nuns on the run from Apache Indians.

Nick Park and Peter Lord, the Aardman animators, are preparing a second feature film based on the adventures of their most famous creations, Wallace and Gromit. The claymation feature, Wallace and Gromit: The Great Vegetable Plot, will be produced at their Bristol headquarters and is scheduled for release in November 2004. Their previous film, Chicken Run, was a surprise critical and commercial success.

Tim Burton and Michael Keaton are mulling over a possible sequel to their cult 1987 film Beetlejuice. The director and star have discussed possible new directions for the oddball ghost story about an all-American family who find their home infiltrated by Gothic spooks. Keaton has said that the project depends on receiving a green light from Warner Bros.
