A murky, grimy, black and white film that begins like an offbeat character study of an old gangster and the immigrant repairing his roof and turns into a disturbing tale that goes the full distance. From the start, debut Georgian director Géla Babluani, only 26, keeps you guessing with inventive camera angles and an absolute refusal to explain anything. This wildly unsettling film is a family affair. The director's brother plays the harrowing key role with conviction (their father is a renowned director in the ex-Soviet state), and it won a haul of awards, including a prize at Sundance.
