Electroclash breathed life into a dying club scene earlier this decade as artists such as Tiga, Miss Kittin and Fischerspooner put charisma and salacious fun back on the agenda. Though its critics argued the movement eschewed soul for the synthetic, its influence has been significant. Without it, the Bravery might still be a ska band and the Scissor Sisters, who rose through the London clubs, might have remained just a euphemism. Munich's DJ Hell and his Gigolo label were at the centre of it all, and this is their story.

Collated from eight years of footage, the film is frustratingly unchronological. And for a scene that thrived on glamour and sex, there is too much footage of DJs just playing records. At least Germany's Zombie Nation understands that this can look bloodless; maybe that's why he enlivens his set by pouring a bucket of tomato juice over his head.
