The bowler hat and cane used by Charlie Chaplin is expected to fetch up to £150,000 at auction today.

His trademark props go under the hammer in a sale of film and rock 'n' roll memorabilia at Bonhams auction house, Kensington, west London, along with a rare 1970s Dalek - the Dalek Supreme - from the BBC's Dr Who drama series, and the handwritten lyrics of John Lennon's Give Peace a Chance.

Chaplin is said to have chosen his hat and cane, props which he used throughout his 22-year career, on a rainy afternoon in February 1914 at Keystone Studio in Hollywood.
