A knockabout Turkish comedy in cod-period garb directed by Ezal Akay, who directed the similarly wearing Where's Firuze? (He also, once upon a time, produced a rather serious film about the Kurds called Journey to the Sun. Those thoughtful days are very clearly over.)

Kiilling the Shadows is based on a folk-theatre myth from the 14th-century about two itinerant workers, Karagoz and Hacivat, who clowned around entertaining the crowd, when they should have been constructing a mosque.

The comic leads are played by Beyazit Oztürk and Haluk Bilgine, who are well known in Turkey, though not over here, despite Bilgine having evidently had some TV credits in the UK in the 80s and early 90s. It's strained and laboured - like nothing so much as a Turkish Carry On film. This comedy doesn't travel at all well.
