A pre-stardom Ellen Page slouches and squabbles her way through this grungy 2005 drama, belatedly dug out from the vaults on the back of Juno's success.

She plays a kohl-eyed street kid who finds sanctuary of sorts at a Portuguese commune, only to find (who could have guessed?) that the place is not quite the utopia it's cracked up to be.

Alison Murray's sun-dazed memoir of bad parents and dysfunctional mentors comes hobbled by a peevish, score-settling tone. It ensures this would-be Lord of the Flies never quite evolves beyond the maggot stage.
