Singaporean director Eric Khoo has created a very gentle, sweet-natured film which unostentatiously mixes fact with fiction. At its centre is Mrs Theresa Chan, a 61-year-old teacher of disabled children in Singapore who has herself been deaf and blind since her teens. Mrs Chan plays herself, and Choo interleaves her real life with three separate fictional tales of love. A lonely shopkeeper retreats into sadness; an overweight security guard in an office building conceives a hopeless love for an elegant businesswoman; a schoolgirl gets a painful crush. Khoo reveals how close Mrs Chan herself once came to getting married, we begin to see the thematic and spiritual connection she has with the other characters. A quiet, graceful little film.
