The new HP was launched in the US yesterday and in the UK today. Hewlett-Packard now includes companies that used to trade as Compaq, Digital Equipment Corp (DEC), Tandem and Apollo, among others. The last time two giant corporations got together to form the world's second biggest computer company (after IBM) was in the 1980s when Burroughs bought Sperry to form Unisys.
