It is always nice when highly-paid analysts confirm the obvious, and happily, Goldman Sachs is part of the crowd that believes "IT buyers will use Linux to take advantage of lower-cost, higher-performance Intel-based servers -- and to avoid "premium-priced proprietary systems." Eventually, systems running Linux will displace systems based on Unix and RISC processors", reports NewsFactor Network. At least at the low end of the scale, it's relatively easy to switch from a proprietary Unix on proprietary hardware to the Gnu/Linux clone of Unix running on Intel. And even if both hardware and software are technically inferior to big vendor Unix offerings, they are much cheaper and much more widely available.
