Clearly influenced by Cars, Planes is produced by John Lasseter, co-director of Cars and a key figure in the success of Disney's elite animation unit, Pixar. But Planes is the work of Disneytoons, a less fastidious branch of Walt's empire that mostly makes films for TV, and it centres on Dusty, a crop-dusting plane. One of nature's cheerful underdogs, Dusty sets out to win a round-the-world air race despite never having flown more than 1,000 feet above the ground before. A forgettable, though not dislikable, affair.
