Ministers have launched a consultation into whether to ban under-16s from using social media as part of a package of measures designed to curb mobile phone use among young people.
Supporters of a ban say platforms expose young people to addictive design features and harmful content at a critical stage of development, while critics warn that restrictions could be difficult to enforce or push some teenagers into riskier online spaces.
We’d like to hear from young people, parents and teachers about how you feel about the proposed ban. Do you think an outright ban would help, or are there better ways to protect children online? Young people, we’re keen to hear about your experiences of using social media when you were younger. Did you see content you wish you hadn’t? Do you feel social media had a positive or negative effect on you? Parents and teachers, would tighter restrictions make a difference to behaviour, concentration or wellbeing?
