The first Guardian Australia Film Club event kicked off with a series of movie screenings and panel debates on Sunday.

Hosted by our film critic Luke Buckmaster and taking inspiration from his regular column, the first of the club’s bimonthly events featured a panel on making debut films in Australia with Animal Kingdom’s producer Liz Watts, Ruben Guthrie producer Kath Shelper, and Tristan Roache-Turner, who produced 2014 zombie film, Wyrmwood.
