With the Savile saga still unravelling, BBC director general George Entwistle had to pull out of going to County Antrim for the final analogue TV switch off on Tuesday night. Monkey hears that left the recently-departed chief operating officer, Caroline Thomson, as the most senior BBC-type at the bash held to celebrate the end of the digital switchover. Entwistle could probably have done with Thomson's experience during his duffing up by the Commons culture select committee. Monkey reckons Entwistle must also be wishing that the Savile story could be switched off as easily as the analogue signal – who would have thought five years ago that Savile, rather than digital switchover, would end up being a disaster for the Beeb?
