Set in small-town Ohio, The Watch is a comic horror movie in which four sad, foulmouthed suburban types form a neighbourhood watch to combat an unseen menace that proves to be a vanguard of malevolent aliens. In setting, plot and intention it's very like JJ Abrams's delightful Super 8, but very different in achievement. Altogether a deeply dislikable damp squib of a picture.
