Here's an age demarcation at work. In 1978, the older kids and the young adults were all about disco, thanks to the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, the year's best-selling album. Their little sisters and brothers, however, were all over the year's second biggest seller, the Grease soundtrack. If puberty had not yet struck, disco's seductive power was a mystery. You're the One That I Want, on the other hand, told you about something as yet hidden but made it sound like something you wanted to try: "I've got chills/ They're multiplyin'/ And I'm losing control/ 'Cos the power you're supplyin'/ It's electrifyin'!" So that's what sex is, we understood as one.
