Magic to Win – review

A revival of an 80s Hong Kong supernatural comedy is enjoyable if forgettable, writes Philip French

Reviving a popular 1980s Hong Kong comedy series, this lightweight supernatural comedy stars Raymond Wong, a survivor from the earlier films, as pawkily humorous Professor Kang of Pegasus University, whose magical powers are accidentally transferred to student volleyball player Macy Cheng. Almost before you can say "Potter" (though somebody does), she's drawn into a conflict between exponents of the dark arts, one of whom plans to unite the powers of fire, wood, water, earth and gold to reverse time and change the past. Impossible to dislike, difficult to remember.
