This brief, seductive documentary follows the few months a Mexican fisherman spends with his small son, who mostly lives in Rome with his Italian mother, on a coral reef off the Caribbean coast of south-east Mexico. Shot by a crew of two (the director handling sound), it's a charmer, inviting that ambiguous compliment "deceptively simple". The pair bond in a house built on stilts. They swim in the unpolluted water, prepare the fish they catch, make friends with a wading bird and teach it to eat bugs out of their hands. A limited delight that's over too soon.
