Sarah Jessica Parker, 44, and Matthew Broderick, 47, are expecting twin daughters this summer. The couple, who have been married for 12 years, have one son, 6-year-old James Wilkie Broderick.

No details about the surrogate have been released. Parker is due to start filming on a Sex and the City movie sequel in the coming months.

A friend of the Parker-Broderick clan told Entertainment Weekly:

"They had a lot of unsuccessful tries", to have another child. "They came to the conclusion that this was going to be the best alternative for expanding their family."

Representatives for the couple confirmed the news yesterday, saying:

"Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick are happily anticipating the birth of their twin daughters later this summer with the generous help of a surrogate. The entire family is overjoyed."
